Welcome to Best Friends Furever

Best Friends Furever (BFF) is about reducing the number of community (stray)(free-roaming) cats and helping control cat overpopulation. BFF adheres to a NO-KILL philosophy through an aggressive Trap-Neuter-Return program. BFF works directly with Dauphin County residents (known as Colony Caretakers) to provide financial assistance for medical procedures to their community cats. The cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, ear-tipped, and returned to their community. For more information on the TNR process, see the “Trap-Neuter-Return” section.

BFF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, donations are tax deductible under IRS rules. BFF uses donations to pay for for the surgeries and vaccinations. Thanks to the community's support, BFF has Trapped, Neutered, and Returned more than 1,100 cats since this program's inception in July 2011.

Trap-Neuter-Return

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR)

Best Friends Furever (BFF) is here for you. Do you care for a cat colony? Are stray cats roaming your neighborhood? Do cats in heat congregate around your bedroom window while you’re sleeping? We can help!!!

BFF is an all-volunteer group with a mission to reduce the stray cat population. We work in cooperation with The Nobody’s Cats Foundation and Steelton Community Cats to help strive for a better community by providing education to community colony caretakers. BFF provides financial support to directly to the neutering organizations at no cost to Dauphin County residents.

If you plan to Trap-Neuter-Return a community cat, please follow these steps prior to trapping any cats.

  1. Check with your local municipality to see if other organizations are working in your community. BFF wants to support municipalities that do not currently maintain TNR services.
  2. Contact BFF at cats@BFFPA.org with your intention to perform TNR. BFF will provide instructions to create an appointment with a neutering/spaying agency.
  3. When you have an appointment scheduled, please contact BFF with your information at least 48-72 prior to the appointment. At this time, BFF is limited to funding two (2) surgeries per month per resident.

A few things to remember.

  • This service is for community cats only. This service is not to be used for pets or community cats that are to become pets. All cats will be ear-tipped during surgery.
  • All cats must be presented to surgery agencies in humane traps only. Cats in carries or other containment devices will not be serviced.
  • Residents are responsible for all post-surgery care.
  • All cats must be returned to their neighborhood of origin.
  • BFF strongly encourages all residents to maintain care (food, water, shelter) for post-TNR cats.

Please contact BFF with any questions at cats@BFFPA.org.
